1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT Serial 04448

This 1972 Euro Spec Dino 246 GT has been in California the last 20 some years: title is clean and it is registered in California. The Dino is in the San Francisco Bay Area. The prior owner had the car 18 years and spent a lot of money on refurbishment, yet the car was not completed. My client a well known Ferrari restoration shop purchased the car from the owner upon his decision to invest in a Vintage Race car instead of this Dino.

The engine is completely rebuilt as was the transmission. This work was done in 1990 by Automobile Scuderia, Harry Pappas proprietor, and we have all the receipts. Although installed in the car, and periodically started and run, there is virtually no mileage on the rebuilt engine. The car has been driven only a few miles. In addition to the mechanical work on the engine, the brake system and suspension has been refurbished. Many new and or “new-old” stock parts have been purchased and either are on the car or awaiting re-fitment: they include $5000 for brand new wind wing windows and assemblies, all inner fiberglass inside wheel arch liners, new exhaust, lights, emblems and Dino script badges, all rubber hoses, door, window, and trunk rubber and a new windshield. The radiator and gas tank were boiled out and pressure tested.

The present owner (the Ferrari restoration shop) has re-painted the Dino in Fly Yellow (original color appears to have been Blue.) Prior to the re-spray the car was stripped to bare metal, the lower rocker panels below the doors were replaced, and one other small section under one of the taillights was also replaced: no other metal work was done. There is no rust in this Dino and the paint prep and body work is superb. The car is painted in a two stage urethane and has had its first color sand, yet is not fully color sanded or polished.

The seats were refurbished in leather (but do not appear correct in the scale of the striping) yet the quality is very good. Carpets are excellent: but are a bit dusty. Dash is not “mouse-fur” therefore not correct but is of nice quality vinyl and fitment is very good. Although a Euro spec car originally this car is fitted with power windows. The wheels were recently powder-coated.

Although as previously mention the car runs perfectly, fires right up and drives: it will need to be completed. It is being sold “as-is and where-is” the winning bidder is responsible for all transportation costs associated with collecting the vehicle and boxing all parts not on the car.

The present owner will consider a services engagement to complete the car should the buyer wish to engage such. Please contact me if you are interested in discussing an engagement.

The present owner, if retained to complete the Dino’s restoration can assist with location, and or fabrication of all or part of these missing components.

Note: the car has had some additional work done subsequent to when the photos were taken: fans and all hoses are installed along with radiator heating ducting, lights and some other bits and trim.
