Excellent Vintage Race Candidate or Restoration Project

This is a solid early short wheelbase 911, with the stock 2 litre and a rebuilt original 4 speed transmission. The car is a California car, with we believe a three owner history. All trim bits are on the car, however carburetors may have been updated. (We have the original air cleaner sheet metal shrouding.) The car runs well, however needs a new set of plug wires, thus it pops and fouls out a bit. Compression is 115,110,120,110,110,110. It pulls well. Clutch take up is excellent, shifts are very smooth. The engine does leak a bit, some leakage exhibited onto the headers. Steering is solid and actuates smoothly. Suspension is good, albeit not re-built, the car tracks straight, and handling feels very normal for an old 911. In addition to rebuilding the transmission, the owner recently had the drivers seat rebuilt, replaced the battery, replaced the clutch cable and added a very nice Nakamichi stereo CD. (We have no other service records.)

The condition of the body is very good. One rust repair was done in front of the spare tire well (typical location) but the workmanship on this repair is poor. The lower side rocker panels and other typical 911 rust locations are in quite good shape. The door alignment and hinges are in excellent condition. The car does not appear to have been involved in an accident: body panel fitment appears original and pretty straight. The car is repainted in black (We do not know the original color.) The paint is a shinny 50/50 job, looks good at 50 feet and 50 MPH. The quality of the paint work is only fair. Chrome is slightly pitted, but otherwise in good condition. Lights and other body trim pieces are in good condition. The car is fitted with Euro lights and we have the original US issue lights as well.

Interior is very original and in quite nice shape, the driver’s seat being re-done. Door panels are nice (note holes cut for speakers.) The steering wheel is original and we have a Momo leather wheel as well. Headliner is good. All gauges work, as do all wipers and lights.

This solid early 911 is an excellent candidate for a restoration or as a Vintage Race Car. These cars are wonderful drivers and are appreciating. Many Vintage Racing organizations are now allowing early 911 cars within their Production classes and they are very competitive in the under 2 litre races.

The title is clear, free of liens, and we have the California Title Certificate. Please call if you have any further questions. The car has been consigned to Driveline for sale by the owner.
